Why is Madonna being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Isn't she a mere POP star instead of a rock star?|||Do they have a whore of fame?|||For the same reason why this is the Rock and Pop section..


the lines are blurred and they should change the name to the Rock and Pop Hall of Fame..


Other pop stars are already in it.. so why not Madonna?


I won't loose my sleep over it... good for her. She is running 50 and just as successful and chamaleonic as ever.|||because the rock and roll hall of fame is about as credible as rolling stone magazine....they let in degenerates and keep out talented musicians.|||Because the Hall of Fame is a corporate entity and she's the consumate corporate performer. It's a perfect match.





There is a good reason I've never visited that place....|||While I would agree with Xenon Black about the breadth of 'Rock', Madonna is not, nor has she ever been, 'Rock'.


She is 'Pop', pure and simple.|||I don't know. Her early days were semi related to Punk and disco as she used to hang out in Lower manhattan and clubs like CBGB's or Max's Kansas City, but she has evolved (for lack of a better word) to Pop Icon, some people sell their souls for a buck and what's up with her British accent!?|||That's just how the Hall rolls. She's sold a ton of records.|||Are you serious? Madonna is a legend


She has inspired some of today's female singers. She is an Icon, her ability to produce hit music and reinvent herself has not been matched by any other female artist since her debut....The name rock is not tailored for only hard rock, there is soft rock, rock and soul, punk rock, folk rock....|||The line between "rock" and "pop" has been blurred for a long time. Yes, she's more "pop," but she's achieved a number of incredible feats in music, and she should be recognized by someone.*





(Subjective, individual taste aside.)|||Amen! I've been scratching my head over that one too. I'll agree that she's influential and an important musical artist but she is definitely not ROCK.





My main beef is still why in the heck hasn't the band Kiss been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame? Madonna but not Kiss. Makes no sense at all.|||I agree whole heartedly. A star for your question. And for more on this subject see my question.
